At AVCC, $160 total self-pay covers the complete new-patient eye exam and contact lens fitting. It includes diagnostic trial lenses, including additional sets when needed; insertion, removal and care training for first-time wearers; and unlimited fitting follow-ups within 30 days of receiving the trial lenses. Your ongoing contact lens supply is separate. These fees are the same in Aurora, Greensburg and Richmond.

One total for the new-patient exam and fitting

The $160 new-patient package combines the eye exam and contact lens fitting. It is not a $160 charge added to a $95 exam. The fitting fee is the same for astigmatism, bifocal and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses; your clinician will discuss which lens is appropriate for your eyes.

A contact lens fitting considers how the lens works on your eye, not just the numbers in a glasses prescription. Contact lenses are medical devices, and correct wear and care matter. Tell the office whether you are trying contacts for the first time, returning for an evaluation, or experiencing a problem.

Trial lenses and first-time wearer training are included

The new-patient package includes diagnostic trial lenses. If additional trial sets are needed to reach the appropriate vision outcome, they are included too. These trials help with fitting; they are different from the ongoing supply you purchase afterward.

If you are a first-time contact lens wearer, the team teaches you how to insert, remove and care for the lenses. Additional training sessions are included when needed. Ask for help with any step that is difficult rather than assuming you must work it out alone.

Fitting follow-ups are included for 30 days after you receive trials

Unlimited fitting follow-ups are included within 30 days of receiving the trial lenses. The starting point is when you receive the trials, not simply when you first request an appointment. Follow the return schedule your clinician recommends.

AVCC aims to complete the fitting within that window and can consider individual circumstances. Beyond the window, an additional $35 fee may apply at the office’s discretion. Ask the office about any additional charge for the follow-up care you need.

What is separate from the new-patient package?

Your ongoing contact lens supply and eyewear are separate purchases. Additional diagnostic testing or treatment for a medical eye concern may also have a separate charge, usually at another visit. Ask about the purpose, timing and expected cost of additional care.

Screening retinal photos and OCT scans are included as part of the comprehensive exam for patients ages 25 and older. That screening inclusion does not mean all later diagnostic imaging is free.

Returning patients may need a different visit

For returning patients whose previous AVCC exam was within three years, a fitting-only visit is $35. A comprehensive exam is $95. The office will help determine which visit is appropriate and what it involves; the fitting-only visit is not a complete exam or a promise of the new-patient package’s inclusions.

If you are using insurance, check the expected service, exact plan, doctor and office before assuming what is covered. The self-pay prices do not establish your insurance copay or benefits.

Plan the fitting and your ongoing lens care

Allow about 45–60 minutes for the contact lens visit, with extra time or later visits if your needs require it. Finishing the initial appointment does not necessarily mean the fitting is complete. Ask when to return and what the clinician still needs to check.

The FTC explains that you should receive your contact lens prescription automatically when the fitting is complete, without a separate prescription-release fee. You may choose where to buy your prescribed lenses.

Follow your clinician’s wear and care instructions. CDC guidance includes keeping lenses away from water and following the prescribed cleaning and replacement routine. If contacts cause discomfort, remove them and contact your eye-care provider. Do not wait for a routine online callback for urgent eye symptoms.
